The Freetown Artist Studio is situated in the heart of Downtown Lafayette.It is only a few blocks from live music and great food. Living space is approximately 1200 square feet and comes with all of the amenities for a creative, private, relaxing getaway. The apartment measures 1000 square feet and has been newly renovated. I'm using this space strictly for airbnb. There are a total of 5 rooms, a dining room/utility room has table and chairs, serving utensils and artwork with folding doors hide the washing machine and dryer. The kitchen is complete with refrigerator, cast iron sink, dishwasher, cooking utensils, silverware, dishes and gas stove. The bathroom has a cast iron tub/shower, toilet, sink, towels and toiletries.(soap, toothpaste, shampoo as well as disposable toothbrushes if you need one) The living room has a large picture window overlooking a pond, a sleeper sofa, media armoire, bookshelves, table and chairs and secretary. The bedroom has a queen size bed, chest of drawers, ceiling fan and closet. The apartment has many pieces of original art and small, private backyard. Parking is available off the street in the side gravel lot. The studio apartment is accessed through double doors located on the front porch. My studio and office is attached to the apartment but there is no shared access to ensure guests privacy at all times. I work at the studio 8-5 during the weekdays. The workspaces and apartment are separate except for the alcove, (which I don't use that much) so unless you need me, you'll have your privacy. If I'm running an errand in that case I'll be accessible by phone. In the event I'm out of town, I'll make arrangements. I recently saw an article about guests privacy using Airbnb. I was shocked that some hosts have nanny cameras or recording devices in their spaces. I respect my guests privacy. There are no recording devices of any type in my space. Freetown was named because this neighborhood is where the first freed people of color lived in early Vermilionville (pre 1888 Lafayette), later it was a railroad neigborhood around 1900. The great railroad round house was located just directly across the tracks from Freetown. When I arrived here in 1981 the neighborhood was just older people. The artists, musicians and dancers took advantage of the cheap rents and revitialized the area in the 80's ,90's and 00's Freetown is on the edge of downtown Lafayette and within walking distance to Festival International, Borden’s Ice Cream Parlor, (Lafayette’s first ice cream shop) and Blue Moon Saloon, the hot spot honkey-tonk for Cajun, Creole and Louisiana music. Our favorite sandwich shop, Cedar Grocery, is 4 blocks west. Gary's Grocery (known for the big G burger) is one block south and serves a workingman's plate lunch, monday through Friday. You can get a few essentials there plus snacks and drinks. One block north and you will arrive at Taco sisters. This is a nouveau eatery with fresh salads, burritos and tacos with outside dining. They have a drive though and walk up window. Four blocks west is Tammy's Grocery where you can find more essentials than Gary's as well as plate lunches. The Rosa Parks transportation Center is within walking distance and provides access to train, taxi, city bus transportation but most guests prefer to Uber it around town. You can bring your bike on the city bus. The Freetown/Downtown area is easy to navigate by bike or foot. The neighborhood is generally quiet except for the passing trains. The train tracks are a block and a half away. I'm used to the trains and tune them out. They seem to be louder in cooler dry weather.
