On a quiet street, just a five-minute taxi ride to town center and set in a walled garden, this little 16-square-meter house has all you'll need as a base for exploring Valladolid and Yucatan or, if you'd rather, for just lazing in a hammock with cold drinks. My property is on the southeast edge of town in a country setting. It's a walk to center - 8 or 9 long blocks - but taxis are 35 pesos per group, 40 pesos if you call for pick-up at the door. The streets are quite safe to walk at night. Unlike most tourist rooms in Valladolid, the guest house has a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and counter-top stove. There's wireless internet, gated off-street parking and a roofed front porch with ceiling fan and hammock. Bird-watching in the garden can sometimes bring delightful surprises. It's a nice area with friendly neighbors and four small stores within easy walking for basic necessities. The space is fully outfitted with sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, dishes, pots and pans, etc. I can lend small things needed such as an iron, a hair dryer, small kitchen appliances. etc. I have two bikes available to my guests - first come, first served. Similarly, I have various shelves full of DVDs that I can loan. I have a washer and dryer in my house with clothes lines outside. Guests can coordinate the use of these with me or, for a reasonable charge, my housekeeper can wash, dry and fold clothes for guests upon request. There are also laundries that will wash, dry and fold for 15 pesos per kilo within 5 to 6 blocks. There's a lot to see and do in Valladolid and the surrounding area. I am happy to talk about where everything is and how to get there. I also have a list of things to see and do that I can send in advance by email. My property is in a nice quiet area on the southeast edge of town with friendly neighbors. Three small stores and one medium-sized grocery store are within easy walking for basic necessities. There are several restaurants within a 3 to 4-block walk - one of them has a swimming pool! Several places in town will deliver pizza and other orders to the door. Within 4 blocks is a movie theater where movies are sometimes shown in English with Spanish sub-titles. My property is on the southeast edge of town. That's a 15-minute walk to town center (5 minute taxi ride), but it's cooler and quieter than close in to the Main Square. If you want to be within stepping distance of the downtown attractions, then my spaces are not for you. If you like peace and quiet and you don't mind roosters in the morning, then ... bienvenidos! Taxis cost 35 pesos per group traveling together and a walk of 2 to 3 minutes will always find one. There is a radio taxi service by phone that will come right to my gate. The cost is 40 pesos. (This is easiest when traveling with luggage, for example, to the bus station.) There are several places in town that offer tour guide services. There are bike rental shops and motor scooter shops located very near town center. There are pueblo taxis that travel out to the Ek Balam ruins (where you can climb the pyramids), the cenotes in Dzitnup (where you can swim underground), the church in Uayma, and other nearby tourist sites. There are even taxis that travel between Valladolid and Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Buses run regularly from the bus station in town to Chichén Itzá, to Río Largartos to see the flamingos and swim in the Gulf, and to other places farther afield. NOTE: Cancun, and the entire Caribbean coast, as well, is one hour later than Valladolid. Mexico no longer observes Daylight Savings (except for a few areas close to the northern border). Consequently, except for Quintana Roo and those areas near the border, Mexico is on U.S. Mountain Time during the spring, summer and fall months.
